Lindsay Phillips was the energetic inspiration and founding force behind SwitchFlops, a unique footwear concept that evolved from a high school art project. But there’s more to this innovative shoe gal than meets the eye (or should we say foot?)
Lindsay was the quintessential Florida gal. Born and raised in Clearwater, she grew up surrounded by lush palm trees, the salty spray of the ocean, and a vivid display of colorful flowers, birds, and people. Soaking up the outdoors, sunset boat trips, and emptying crab traps with her dad are just a taste of her many warm memories from childhood. Inevitably, her tropical surroundings and enviable upbringing were the perfect mix for this dynamic fashoenista to create something special with a uniquely Floridian twist. And Switchflops was born! Lindsay liked to think of her shoe and accessories line as a slice of sunshine that she got to share with the world.
When she wasn't greeting Switchflops fans, heading board meetings, or designing more shoes, Lindsay could be found chasing her two energetic young boys, running, decorating, cooking and enjoying food with her husband and friends/family, playing with her dog – the iconic Cosmo – and planning trips to new places.
As Lindsay liked to say...
"Change your look, not your sole."
Inspired by her love of shoes and all that is Florida, Lindsay creates a ceramic sandal during a high school art class, adorning the straps with sunshine-themed embellishments.
Driven by the unexpected enthusiasm for her funky sandal, Lindsay sets out to create an actual flip flop, using hook and loop (Velcro) to add detail to a simple pair of flops. She applies for a patent before she graduates from high school.
